Trailer Time: 'Djinn', directed by Tobe Hooper
Turns out we may be seeing Tobe Hooper's Djinn in American movie theaters, after all. A few days ago, word broke that Tobe Hooper's middle eastern horror was quietly being buried due to a member of the Arab royal family finding the film to be politically subversive, painting the United Arab Emirates in a bad light. The production company, Imagenation Abu Dhabi, was bought off and instructed to make sure the film never sees the light of day. A rep from Imagenation recently made a statement claiming this news to be totally false, and that Djinn would open in theaters next year...
"These rumours are unfounded. Djinn is in active post-production, and Image Nation looks forward to releasing the film in theatres later this year. As for offers, there have been no formal offers were made for Djinn."
Note that he doesn't say where it'll be released or elaborate on the scope of it's rollout. We'll just have to wait and see how much of all this turns out to be true. The story centers on a couple that returns home from the United States only to discover that their new apartment has been haunted by a malevolent spirit. Not exactly the most novel idea in the world, but based on the newly released trailer, the culture of the area is going to play a key component in the story, gender inequalities as well. Check out the trailer for Djinn below, and let's hope it finds a way onto our shores....
