1st poster for Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln', starring Daniel Day-Lewis

If this image was shown in museums or in history textbooks, would anyone be able to tell that it was Daniel Day-Lewis portraying one of our greatest Presidents, Abraham Lincoln? Probably not, as the vaunted actor has done what he's become so revered for, which is totally melting into a character in a way few others can.  The first poster for Steven Spielberg's Lincoln puts Day-Lewis front and center, knowing that many are going to flock to see how the actor sinks his teeth into the role.

Based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's historical novel, Team of Rivals, Lincoln takes place during the final months of the Presidents' life as he struggles with the explosive personalities in his Cabinet to end slavery and the Civil War. So far we haven't seen much from the film except for one official still photo, but with the release of this poster a trailer can't be far behind. It's actually surprising that it's taken this long to get it, considering Lincoln opens in limited release on November 9th before hitting wide the following week. Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, John Hawkes, Michael Stuhlbarg, David Strathairn, Walton Goggins, David Oyelowo, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill, Jackie Earle Haley, Lee Pace, and Jared Harris co-star in what has to be the year's strongest ensemble.
