Gary Ross confirmed to direct 'Peter and the Starcatchers'

Always one to explore greener pastures, Gary Ross left the comfort of The Hunger Games franchise and has seen his name up for any number of potentially major projects. He was circling a planned Tarzan film at one point, and not long ago he signed on to direct a Houdini film. Last month it was rumored he had entered negotiations to direct an adaptation of Peter and the Starcatchers, a prequel of sorts to the classic J.M. Barrie Peter Pan stories. Now Deadline has not only confirmed Ross for the job, but it will be his next film.

The story is set years before the Peter Pan stories we all know and love, and follows the titular boy who never grows old as he and his Lost Boys team up with a girl named Molly to keep a very special treasure out of the hands of Black Stache, who would later become Captain Hook.

Ross has apparently "lost interest" in the Houdini gig, so his attention will be clearly focused on Peter Pan now. Disney will want to hurry to get the film done before the Gavin O'Connor-directed, Channing Tatum-produced Neverland finds its way into theaters.
