Penelope Cruz and Emile Hirsch make an unlikely pair in the 'Twice Born' trailer
There's a laundry list of gorgeous leading men that Penelope Cruz has had the fortune to star opposite on screen. Her husband Javier Bardem immediately springs to mind, along with Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, and Antonio Banderas. But the latest one to the list of lucky dudes is by far the most unlikely of the bunch, as Penelope Cruz pairs up with Emile friggin' Hirsch in Sergio Castellitto's Twice Born.
Pairing up with the director for the first time in over a decade, Cruz plays a single mother who flies back to Sarajevo with her teenaged son for an exhibit of photographs taken by her deceased ex-lover, an American who died in the 1990s during the Balkan Wars. The return home triggers a flood of memories, with the film largely covering their passionate, tempestuous affair. The film is based on the novel by Castellitto's wife, Margaret Mazzantini, and judging by this newly released trailer, Hirsch could be on the verge of his most mature role to date. I'm interested in seeing how this plays out, even if I've had my fill of wartorn romances after In the Land of Blood and Honey.
Twice Born will be one of the films hitting Toronto next week, but there's no U.S. release date yet....
