David Strathairn joins the 'Godzilla' reboot
I count David Strathairn as being in the same league as someone like Richard Jenkins. He'll probably never be a superstar actor, but every single time he's called into duty for a supporting role he simply knocks it out of the park. And just as Jenkins showed he could be a leading man in The Visitor, Strathairn did the same in his Oscar-nominated performance in Good Night and Good Luck. Now he's adding his significant acting chops to the cast of Gareth Edwards' Godzilla reboot.
Strathairn, who was recently seen as part of the Lincoln ensemble, will join Aaron Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, and possibly Juliette Binoche in the big screen relaunch of the iconic monster movie. We don't know much about plot, except that Olsen says it will be pretty heavy on the dramatics, and not at all like the campy stuff the Godzilla movies produced later. Strathairn will be playing a military figure, which is nice and vague and not at all like the sort of role I'd expect for him. Then again I never thought he'd be in a show like Alphas, and yet there he was.
Godzilla stomps into theaters in 3D on May 16th 2014. [Variety]
