Red band trailer for cop thriller, 'End of Watch', with Jake Gyllenhaal

You've got to give it up to David Ayer. The screenwriter and director has built a career essentially telling the same story of LAPD corruption and greed ever since he scored his biggest hit with 2001's Training Day. He's certainly not rocking the boat too much with his latest cop thriller, End of Watch, but one look at it will show that maybe Ayer has learned a new trick or two.

A brand new red band trailer for the film has been released, and besides the extreme violence, sex, and drugs, what's clear is that Ayer has going out of his way to give it a new look. There doesn't seem to be one set style he relied on for the cinematography, as we get something that appears to be a combination of found footage, documentary, and more conventional techniques. It's a little jarring at first, but gives a frantic pacing and urgency that Ayer films haven't had in quite awhile.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena play two LAPD cops and close friends who stumble upon a huge cache of money and weapons belong to one of the street's toughest cartels. Rather than turning their find up the chain of command, they decide to handle the situation themselves, and suddenly find themselves with targets on their backs. Anna Kendrick, America Ferrera, Cody Horn, and Frank Grillo, co-star with a release date set for September 28th....
