Emma Watson is Belle in Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast'

It seems Emma Watson just can't stay away from Beauty and the Beast. Awhile back she was attached to lead a version of the fairy tale led by Guillermo Del Toro, but that project never got moving. Now she's back in the lead role once again, only this time it's for Disney and director Bill Condon.

Because, obviously, she's not going to be playing a furry beast (although that would be interesting in a way?), Watson will take on the role of Belle in Beauty and the Beast. Chalk it up as another fairy tale reimagining for Disney, who have already given us Maleficent and will have Cinderella in the coming months.

Condon last got behind the camera for the Wikileaks thriller, The Fifth Estate, and will begin production on Beauty and the Beast this year.

Check Out a Supercut of the Best Movie Party Scenes Ever

"They're begging us! Please, have a party!! Feed us drinks! Get us laid!" Oh, I couldn't love this supercut of movie party scenes more if I tried. The party scene in just about any movie is always going to be my favorite, and movies based around parties occupy a large chunk of my Blu-Ray shelf. Loud music, hot girls, beer, farm animals, "chips, dips, chains, whips", this 6-minute blast of party hysteria has it all. Check out some of the craziest blow-outs from Bachelor Party, Weird Science, PCU, Superbad, House Party (!!!!), Animal House because everybody could use more toga, and so many great other great parties. I'll be watching this on an endless loop until 2015. Seeya latah.  [Reddit]

First Look at Emma Watson and Michael Nyqvist in 'Colonia'

If you were one who contributed to the $14M opening of the awesome John Wick, then you saw Michael Nyqvist give a hilarious performance as the Russian mob boss standing against Keanu Reeves. He was hardly intimidating in that film, nor was he in the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but there seems to be a bit more menace to his next role.  Production is now underway on the period drama, Colonia, which stars Emma Watson and Nyqvist, and the first image shows her in his grip.

Directed by Florian Gallenberger and co-starring Daniel Bruhl, it "tells the story of Lena and Daniel, a young couple, who become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Daniel is abducted by Pinochet’s secret police and Lena tracks him to a sealed off area in the South of the country, called Colonia Dignidad.  The Colonia presents itself as a charitable mission run by lay preacher Paul Schäfer but, in fact, is a place nobody ever escaped from. Lena decides to join the cult in order to find Daniel.

Colonia is set to open in October 2015.

Emma Watson and Daniel Bruhl go to 'Colonia'; Terrence Howard Joins 'Man Down'

You hear that a film about Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet is in the works and the natural assumption is that Pablo Larrain is behind it, but that's not the case with the upcoming drama, Colonia. Instead it will be German filmmaker Florian Gallenberger (John Rabe) directing Emma Watson and Daniel Bruhl in the film which is based on the true story of a young couple embroiled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Bruhl, who worked with Gallenberger on two films prior to this, will play a man abducted by Pinochet's secret police, while Watson is the woman who puts herself in danger to find him. [Deadline]

Terrence Howard is reteaming with Fighting director Dito Montiel for Man Down, which already has Gary Oldman, Shia LaBeouf, and Kate Mara set to star. Penned by Adam Simon, the film centers on "a haunted Afghanistan war veteran who attempts to come to terms with his past while searching for his family in a post-apocalyptic America." Filming begins next month.  [TheWrap]

Guillermo Del Toro Won't Direct Emma Watson in 'Beauty and the Beast' After All

The promising combination of Emma Watson and Guillermo Del Toro, long attached to a live-action Beauty and the Beast adaptation for Warner Bros., sadly isn't going to happen. There are a ton of good things to say about Del Toro but one bad thing is that he takes on too many promising projects and has to drop out when scheduling gets tight. And that's what happened with Beauty and the Beast, but Warner Bros. will soldier on.

Even though Disney is planning their own version of the fairy tale, Warner Bros. is pushing forward on Beauty and the Beast with Watson still on board to star. Del Toro's script remains in effect and he'll continue to produce, but a new director is being sought now and should be announced in a few days.

Hopefully Del Toro will have some input in who takes over and will select someone that can bring his vision to life. [Deadline]

First Look at Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke in Alejandro Amenábar's 'Regression'

Alejandro Amenábar is a filmmaker who is probably deserving of more notoriety given what he's been able to accomplish. His debut film, Open Your Eyes, was remade as Vanilla Sky (one of the few movies I walked out of, but that's another story) by Cameron Crowe; his The Sea Inside won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language film; and when he went Hollywood for The Others he gave us one of the better ghost stories in recent memory. Basically, it's worth noting when Amenábar has a new project on the way, especially when it features the talents of Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke.

The first image from Amenábar's crime drama, Regression, has been released and it features Watson and Hawke sharing a tearful moment. Amenábar wrote the screenplay and brought on David Thewlis, Devon Bostick, Dale Dickey, David Dencik, and Lothaire Bluteau to co-star. The official synopsis is below and with production wrapped we may see this one in time for the festival circuit in 2015.

PLOT: Minnesota, 1990. Detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) investigates the case of young Angela (Emma Watson), who accuses her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of an unspeakable crime. When John unexpectedly and without recollection admits guilt, renowned psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help him relive his memories and what they discover unmasks a horrifying nationwide mystery.

Emma Watson and Miles Teller Head to 'La La Land' for Damien Chazelle

While there are plenty of stand-out films that emerge from Sundance each year, there are few that can boast winning awards as a short, then taking home both the Audience and Jury awards as a feature. Damien Chazelle's jazz drummer film Whiplash is one that has earned those accolades, winning raves not only for himself but star Miles Teller. And with their partnership off to such a good start the two are looking to work together again on another music-themed film, only this time with a huge star in tow.

Teller and Emma Watson are in talks to star in La La Land, a two-hander described as a song-and-dance romance about two dreamers, one an aspiring actress and the other a cocky jazz pianist, who fall in love but find it difficult to find a love/art balance in cutthroat Los Angeles. Chazelle will pen the screenplay, aiming to tell a story about " big dreams, the big city and the kind of love that makes life feel like a musical."

Production on La La Land wouldn't begin until next February, giving Teller time to wrap up Fantastic Four, Insurgent, and the Vinny Pazienza biopic, Bleed for This. Watson will be seen next in Regression opposite Ethan Hawke.  [TheWrap]

Review: Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah' Starring Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, and Jennifer Connelly

It's hard to imagine that an auteur like Darren Aronofsky, whose cinematic tastes have ranged from pro wrestling dramas to ballet thrillers to existential fantasy, could ever venture into unexplored territory. And yet he's found a road untraveled in Noah, his big budget Hollywood make-over of the most famous flood ever and the Biblical tale everybody knows, even if it's because Steve Carell made a comedy out of it. Controversy has dogged Aronofsky's version since the beginning, but the fundamental tenants of the story are faithful and respectful, for better or worse. However, it's when Aronofsky dares to unshackle the story from its familiar confines, exploring the tale's dark psychological corners and indulging in his flair for fantastic visual surrealism that Noah truly sets itself apart.

Russell Crowe steers this ship, giving a commanding, two-fisted turn as Noah, the last in the heroic line of Seth and the natural enemies of the descendants of Cain, who slew his brother Abel ten generations prior. The first murder, Adam and Eve's taste of the forbidden fruit, rape, and all sinful human desire have led "the Creator" to decide the Earth must be cleansed.
“Fire consumes all, water cleanses.”

Noah has been waiting for a sign from the Creator, and he gets in the form of powerful visions of the world washed away in a great flood. With the help of his grandfather, the long-lived Methuselah (Anthony Hopkins), he deciphers these visions as meaning he must build a giant ark, not so he can save humanity from a watery grave, but to rescue the innocent animals so the world can begin anew. So yes, most of the elements we know remain intact, but Aronofsky spruces it up to Lord of the Rings levels of grandiose fantasy. Noah is aided in his building of the ark by the Nephilim, fallen angels transformed into gangly stone giants who start as enemies but become fierce protectors. And who are they protecting him from, exactly? What kind of villain could one come up with for a fairly narrow story such as this? Tubal-Cain (Ray Winstone) is the snarling embodiment of everything wrong with humanity; through gritted teeth (sometimes filled with chewed-upon humans and lizards) he leads his ravaged, depraved clan against Noah in an attempt to board the ark and save themselves.

While Noah is ruled by "Heaven's will", his family is bound by more earthly desires. His wife Naameh (Jennifer Connelly) has stayed true to her husband but has begun to worry about this most recent task; Noah's son Shem (Douglas Booth) wishes for a child with the barren Ila (Emma Watson), while the other son Ham (Logan Lerman) is desperate to find a girl before they all wind up at the bottom of the sea. Good luck with a name like Ham!  The internal family dramas are obviously an embellishment to give a much-needed human touch as there are few other surprises to be found until that first drop of holy rain splashes Noah's face.  When so much of the story hinges on fate and divine intervention, there simply isn't much room for drama.

Aronofsky has some serious guts to take the film in the direction it ultimately leads, as Noah's unshakeable faith begins to border on psychosis, putting his entire family at risk. Exploring the line between religious zealotry and paranoid schizophrenia, it's safe to say this is going to elbow a few purists right in the ribs. But it's also where Aronofsky seems most comfortable as extreme obsession has been a constant theme since early his earliest work. Stuck at sea in the claustrophobic Ark, with a hidden stowaway lurking in the lower bowels, Noah's family find themselves in the midst of a psychotic thriller with their patriarch as the looney bin's top patient. While it does go a little overboard and into camp territory at points, what's most fascinating is how little Aronofsky and co-writer Ari Handel need to do in bringing about this tonal shift. It's a natural progression of Noah's fanaticism taken to a disturbing level.

It should come as no surprise that Aronofsky presents some gloriously moving images in which to tell this story, sending us to deep space at one point to detail the universe's creation. Ironically, the first thoughts that may come to mind during these scenes are of the science-based series, Cosmos, which creationists are currently rending garments over. But Aronofsky's film sits quite naturally in a space that believers and non-believers can appreciate, allowing room for a bit of evolution to the divine origin. The fast-forwarded style of Requiem for a Dream escorts us through the blackness of space to the birth of all life and its modern destruction at the hands of men. It's an exhilarating sequence, one only matched by the ferocity of the flood as it strikes and engulfs the world.  Aronofsky has never had a canvas this big to paint on and what he does with it is miraculous.

It's unlikely that Noah will fully satisfy secular or deeply religious audiences, but it shouldn't drive them away, either. While presenting the spiritual tale from a modern sensibility often makes for a clunky combination, Aronfosky's daring approach and visual deftness stop this ship from running aground.

Check Out the Second Trailer for 'Noah' Now With More Emma Watson!

The last trailer we got for Noah was, in a word, amazing, yet I couldn't help but to feel like it was missing something. I now know what that missing element was, copious amounts of Emma Watson! This second trailer highlights the personal sacrifices that will be made by Noah's family with shots of, what we can assume is, Noah's children being made to leave their significant others behind. Russell Crowe delivers yet another epic line to his son, you'll just have to watch to see what it is! The best thing about this trailer? Well, it's introduced by Ms. Watson herself who proves even further that she is worth pining over with an adorable outtake reel to her trying to intro the trailer. Check it out below and let us know what you think!

New Trailer for 'Noah' Brings the Wrath of God

If this latest trailer for Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic Noah tells us anything it's that Russell Crowe belongs next to Morgan Freeman when it comes to epic narration skills. His Jor-El did nothing but elevate Man of Steel and it's already obvious that he will do the same for Noah. The single line "I am not alone" is delivered in such a chill inducing manner...even if that was all to see in this trailer it would still be worth your time, but that's not all there is to see. The visuals are simply astounding and I don't just mean the overload of beauty that is Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson sharing a screen. When the flood finally comes, if these quick shots are any indicator, it's going to be one of the biggest visual effects accomplishments of the year. This is one of the main things that separates Noah from other apocalyptic films like last weekends Pompeii. Pompeii wasn't bad visually, it was actually pretty damn good, Noah just looks THAT much better. Check it out below and let us know what you think!

New Posters for 'The Raid 2', 'Noah', and 'In the Blood'

With only a little over a month until The Raid 2: Berandal is unleashed on an unsuspecting populace, Gareth Evans has released a cool new poster for the film. The Raid: Redemption pretty much left me a drooling mess it was so awesome, but the sequel is on a whole other level. In my review I call it one of the "great sequels in recent history" and it's no exaggeration. Iko Uwais is back as Rama, and this time he's forced to go even deeper into the criminal underworld, which only means he's got a longer way to fight back out. The Raid 2: Berandal opens on March 28th 2014.

Although some religious groups have already decided to turn up their nose at Darren Aronofsky's Noah because some website told them to, the marketing blitz continues on with the release of new character posters. The images feature co-stars Emma Watson, Douglas Booth, and Anthony Hopkins. Russell Crowe stars as the titular Biblical figure who built a massive ark to save his family from God's watery wrath. Opening on March 28th (The Raid 2 vs. Noah? Unfair!), Noah co-stars Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, and Logan Lerman.

Gina Carano showed she can do a little more than just break bones in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, but let's face it, we really just want to see her beat people up. And after doing just that in Fast & Furious 6, she'll crack skulls in action flick In the Blood. Directed by John Stockwell, who has made a living off gorgeous surf locale flicks like Blue Crush and Into the Blue, he again hits a sunny paradise for a story that centers on a wife fighting to rescue her husband, kidnapped during their Caribbean honeymoon. Carano plays the butt-kicking spouse, naturally, with Cam Gigandet as her husband. Danny Trejo, Luis Guzman, and Stephen Lang co-star when In the Blood opens April 4th.

Emma Watson Joins Ethan Hawke in 'Regression'; Julie Delpy Directs 'A Dazzling Display of Splendor'

There's been some movement on a couple of projects involving every art house fan's favorite lovers from the Before Sunrise flicks, but sadly nothing on a follow-up to Before Midnight. Oh well, let's soldier on....

Emma Watson is joining Ethan Hawke in Regression, the upcoming thriller from The Others director Alejandro Amenábar.  Little is known about the plot or Watson's character, but Amenabar's script but earlier reports said it  “plays with our deepest primal fears to make us feel once again both profoundly human and extremely vulnerable.” Um, sure, whatever. Amenabar previously won the Best Foreign Language Academy Award for 2004's The Sea Inside, so there will be big expectations for Regression when it opens in 2015. Watson will be seen next in Darren Aronofsky's Noah. [TheWrap]

Julie Delpy has mostly stayed in Woody Allen territory with her most recent directorial efforts, comedies 2 Days in Paris and the sequel 2 Days in New York, but now she's moving in a totally different direction. She's set to write and direct A Dazzling Display of Splendor, a film she and Stephen Hammel cooked up that is set in the early days of silent movies and the auto industry. The story "follows a family of Vaudeville performers embarking on a cross-country road trip from New York to Los Angeles while making a motion picture." Right now it doesn't sound as if she'll take on an acting role, but with casting underway now that could change. [Variety]

Trailer for Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah' Starring Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins, and More

It's been a long hard road for Darren Aronofsky to bring his massive, highly expensive Biblical epic Noah to the big screen, and the battle isn't over yet. Filming wrapped last year and the director has been busy putting the finishing touches on the special effects, which are substantial to say the least. As we've learned over the last couple of weeks he's also been fighting with Paramount over the final cut of the film, as some religious groups haven't taken too kindly to his approach to the story of Noah and the Great Flood. While no decision has been made yet to the best of our knowledge, the film is close enough to completion that the first trailer has arrived, and it's mighty impressive.

Russell Crowe stars as Noah, who we all know as the man given a divine command to build a massive ark to survive a Great Flood sent to wash away a sinful humanity. But there's more to this version than just rounding up pairs of animals (this isn't Evan Almighty, thankfully) and riding a few waves, as we see Noah's faith tested in numerous ways, including by a powerful nemesis played by Ray Winstone. The images of the flood and the potential scope of the film are staggering, but it looks like Aronofsky's knack for creating intimate character portraits is also in full display, aided by Crowe who seems to be at his powerful best. We only get a hint of the environmental aspect that has riled up some religious groups (do they think it was written by Al Gore or something?), so it'll be interesting to see if Aronofsky is able to deliver the film as he intended.

Starring Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins, Logan Lerman, Kevin Durand, and Douglas Booth, Noah sets sail on March 28th 2014.

Emma Watson Reteams with Stephen Chbosky for 'While We're Young'

A look back at last year's best films ruined by piss-poor marketing will find Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower right at the top. A terrific high school drama that actually understood what those tough formative years were like, for some odd reason it rolled out in a confusing limited fashion and never really expanded despite glowing reviews and hot young cast. And leading the great talent in front of the camera was Emma Watson, in perhaps her most mature and confident performance to date, and now she's looking to replicate it by teaming up with Chbosky one more time.

Watson will star in an adaptation of Adena Halpern's novel, 29, now retitled While We're Young (not to be confused with the Noah Baumbach film). Chbosky will direct, and the script comes from (500) Days of Summer and The Spectacular Now writers Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter. The material fits comfortably in the writers' wheelhouse, following carefree 75-year old Ellie Jerome who gets her wish to be 29 again. She uses this special gift to spend time with her granddaughter, learning in the process that being young comes with its share of problems.

It sounds a bit like Freaky Friday, but there's every reason to believe the people involved will be able to give it some added depth. Check out the full synopsis below: [Deadline]

Ellie Jerome is a young-at-heart seventy-five-year-old who feels she has more in common with her twenty-nine-year-old granddaughter, Lucy, than her fifty-five-year-old daughter, Barbara. Ellie’s done everything she can to stay young, and the last thing she wants is to celebrate another birthday. So when she finds herself confronted with a cake full of candles, Ellie wishes more than anything that she could be twenty-nine again, just for one day. But who expects a wish like that to come true?
29 is the story of three generations of women and how one magical day shakes up everything they know about each other. While Ellie finds that the life of a twenty-something is not as carefree as she expected, the sheer joy of being young again prompts her to consider living her life all over. Does she dare stay young for more than this day, even if it means leaving everyone she loves behind?

Fresh, funny, and delightful, 29 is an enchanting adventure about families, love, and the real lessons of youth.

Three New Clips from 'This Is the End'

Sony has released  three more clips from the celebrity-filled apocalyptic comedy This is the End, the directorial debut from Evan Goldberg and co-star Seth Rogen. We've been absolutely flooded by material on the film at this point, and while much of it looks hilarious, a lot of the humor seems a little spotty. The fun of it is the chance to see Rogen, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, and their celebrity pals play stylized versions of themselves, but we've been privy to so much footage that the novelty has already worn off.

The new clips involve snippets of scenes we've already had a look at in various trailers and TV spots. One involves an ax-wielding Emma Watson's grand entrance into Franco's crib, while another has the guys arguing over the last remaining Milky Way. The third clip I've been warned not to watch because it involves one of the film's funnier gags, similar to the clip that +Mae Abdulbaki put up earlier today.

I'll be catching This Is the End tomorrow evening (most of you have already seen it by now), and will have a review up Friday June 7th. [IGN]

Emma Watson announces a zombie invasion in a new clip from 'This is the End'

What happens when celebrities meet the apocalypse? We get a... zombie invasion? At least that's what Emma Watson thinks it is in a new clip from This is the End, which begins when Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel attend a party at James Franco's house only to find themselves facing what could possibly be the end of the world.

Check out the funny clip below!

This is the End also stars Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, and Jonah Hill and hits theaters June 12. [Comingsoon]

Emma Watson digs the club scene in new trailer for 'The Bling Ring'

"America has this sick fascination with the Bonnie & Clyde thing". The obsession with celebrity culture has been a recurring theme in Sofia Coppola's films throughout her career, usually seen through the lens of a woman trying to find her place in the world. Rather than merely touching on that theme, it's what The Bling Ring is all about, and how the need for fifteen minutes of fame can turn criminal really fast.

A new trailer for the film has been released, putting star Emma Watson front and center as the leader of a gang of Beverly Hills kids who broke into the homes of their favorite celebs and made away with more than $3M in stolen loot. The footage gives a better look at their time living the high life, hitting all of the parties where the hottest tabloid celebs hang out. Despite consistent critical acclaim, Coppola's films don't typically turn up in multiplexes. With Emma Watson playing against type and a story that looks to skewer Hollywood, this might be Coppola's biggest box office hit yet.

Starring Leslie Mann, Taissa Farmiga, Paris Hilton, Kirsten Dunst, and Gavin Rossdale, The Bling Ring opens on June 14th.

*UPDATE* New photos, plus Emma Watson pole dances in first clip from 'The Bling Ring'

*Updated with a bunch of new photos of everyone but Emma Watson. I think the video of her dancing will more than suffice, though. *

There has never been any doubt that Emma Watson's career choices have led her about as far away from Harry Potter as possible. The film that will probably have people asking "What happened to our little Hermione?" the most is Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, and in the first clip we see exactly why.

Based on a true story that was all the rage over at E! and TMZ, it follows a group of Beverly Hills kids who took to robbing celebrity homes, both out of their celebrity obsession and need to fuel their racy lifestyle. In this clip we get a look at one of their break-ins, leading to Watson twirling around a stripper pole like a pro. She leads a group of mostly unknown young stars including Taissa Farmiga and Israel Broussard, with Leslie Mann, Kirsten Dunst, Paris Hilton, and Gavin Rossdale also making appearances. Hilton was the most high-profile victim of what was then known as the "Beverly Hills Burglar Bunch".

The Bling Ring goes right for your wallet on June 14th.

Emma Watson responds to latest 'Fifty Shades of Grey' rumors

"I haven’t read the book, I haven’t a read a script, nothing. There are so many movies you become attached to when I’ve literally never even received a phone call. It was the same way with 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' – I never even saw a script!"

That was Emma Watson's response last year when rumors pegged her for the role of Anastasia Steele in an adaptation of E L James' popular erotic novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. The talk has persisted despite her denials, and it spiked again earlier this week when the hacker group Anonymous leaked studio information saying she was attached to the role. Now Watson has again been forced to shoot down any such talk, making it quite plain she has no desire to have anything to do with it. She tweeted...

"Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life."

For some reason, there seems to be a real desire for the Harry Potter actress to do something edgier and more adult. Watson has already begun doing that, taking on the R-rated comedy This Is the End with Seth Rogen, and Sofia Coppola's crime drama The Bling Ring.

It's possible that Focus Features has already made their decision and is merely keeping it under wraps for now. They'll want to get started on the film soon in order to have it ready by summer 2014 as planned.
